Addu City, Maldives – Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has revealed that seven additional cases have been recorded in Addu City today.
AEH had revealed that all the cases were recorded from Hithadhoo and out of the 07 new cases recorded today, 05 people were locals and 02 were foreigners.
With the 07 new cases of Covid-19 recorded today, the total number of positive cases recorded in Addu City has risen to 389 out which 86 cases remain active.
From the total active positive cases, 459 direct contacts have been identified so far. Addu City has also recorded 301 recoveries as of today.
From the statistics revealed by AEH, there are total 83 cases from Hithadhoo, 02 cases from Maradhoo and 01 cases from Feydhoo which are currently active in the city.
The increased cases recorded today comes after a cluster with over 17 confirmed cases was identified in Hithadhoo, Addu City on June 13, 2021.
Following the identification of the new cluster, the Mayor of Addu City, Ali Nizar cautioned the people of Addu against having workers come in for domestic chores during this time, as contact tracing efforts are underway to determine the extent of the spread.
Mayor of Addu City, Ali Nizar had also announced a full lockdown on Hithadhoo district of Addu City due to the deteriorating Covid-19 situation which is to start from June 17, 2021 onward.
During a press conference being held on June 15, 2021 by Addu Emergency Operations Center (AEOC), Mayor Nizar told that in addition to the lockdown imposed on Hithadhoo, the curfew in the ward has also been extended from 16:00 till 08:00.
In addition to this two passes are to be given per household with the first pass given from 08:00 till 12:00 and the other one from 12:00 till 16:00. Speaking at the ongoing press conference, Sub Inspector of Polcie, Yoosuf Looth told that the household permit would be given through the Police portal and that the electricity meter number would be required to obtain the pass.
