Malé, Maldives — Civil Service Commission (CSC) has made an announcement to give a huge salary for the Secretary Generals of a Council.

An amendment was recently brought to the Decentralization Act and the Maldives Civil Service Act to not get advice from the Council to appoint Secretary Generals for Councils. The new amendment was presented by MP for Gemanafushi, Ahmed Saeedh.

With the huge chance brought to the Decentralization Act in 2019, part A of Section 126 of the Act states that as one of the highest administrative employee of the council, Civil Service Commission will be appointing a Secretary General for councils with the advice from the councils.

However, MP Saeedh proposed an amendment to the Act saying that as one of the highest administrative employee of the council, the Civil Service Commission will be appointing a Secretary General for councils.

MP Saeedh stated that the reason for the new amendment is to further widen the opportunities to apply for the job of Civil Service jobs and to give equal opportunities to everyone in the society that does not include politics, without the influence of a certain person and as the Civil Service Act states to provide professional services.
