Fearless life is vanishing in the Maldives: Speaker Nasheed

Malé, Maldives – Former President and Current Speaker of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed has stated last night that the ways to live without fear are vanishing in Maldives.

The statement from Speaker Nasheed comes while virtually speaking at the event held to launch MDP Clubhouse last night.

While murdering individuals and injuring people is becoming the norm in the capital Male’ city and even in the islands of Maldives, Speaker Nasheed stated that the safety and protection in the Maldives has been lost by a great extent. Noting that life without fear in the country is vanishing day by day, Speaker Nasheed stated that the biggest issue MDP has faced in its 16 years time is get Maldives’ safe and protect environment.

We want to build flats. We want a house. We want to be able to transport goods and services from one island to another. Schools need to improve. Opportunities for higher education should be there. Medical care should be given when sick. Prosperous lifestyles should be there. But in addition to these, another important thing needed to get today is our safety and protection.

Speaker Nasheed remains in Germany after he was released from the German medical hospital on May 21, where he went for recovery and rehabilitation for the injuries suffered on May 6, 2021.

The IED explosion went off around 20:20 on 6 May leaving Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed critically injured while he was getting into his car near his house, G. Kenereege, Malé City. In addition to the Speaker, 3 more people were also been reported to be injured from the explosion including the Speaker’s bodyguards and bystanders.
