Shock of the tournament came after Switzerland knocked out the world champions France in the knock out stages of the UEFA Euro 2020.

A night of extra ordinary events saw France conceding first, scoring thrice, conceding back two in the late stages forcing the game go on to extra time, extremely similar to Spain vs Croatia on the same night.

Match opened with a Seferovic goal in the 15th minute giving Swiss the lead. France looked eerie on the first half but improved drastically on the second. Karim Benzema scored on the 57th minute after a key penalty was missed by Switzerland two minutes before. Benzema scored again before the 60th minute giving France total control of the game.

Paul Pogba scored a screamer outside the box practically finishing the match on 75th minute. But Switzerland was not ready to give up. Few individual errors and sloppy defending Seferovic scored another header from a perfect cross, 9 minutes to play on regular time. Gavranovic was the Swiss player to put the icing on the cake, equalizing on the 90th minute forcing extra time.

No goals were scored on two halves of the extra time going for a penalty shootout. The first of this tournament. 9 players went to shoot the penalty before French youngster Kylian Mbappe. 9 players successfully converted their penalties but Mbappe’s strong penalty on to the left was saved by Yann Sommer.

Switzerland will play against Spain in the quarter finals. Last two spots of quarter finals will be decided tonight after England play against Germany, followed by Sweden vs Ukraine.
