Mosques open & curfew eases in S. Hithadhoo

Addu City, Maldives – Addu Emergency Operation Center (AEOC) has eased the curfew in Addu City, Hithadhoo effective today.

At a press conference last night, Deputy Mayor Mohamed Shuaau stated that the curfew for Hithadhoo district will now start from 21:00 until 04:00.

In addition, shops can now be open until 21:00 with delivery services provided until 22:00. Food establishments can only provide take-way and delivery services until 22:00.

Mosques are also open for congregational prayers.

The easements are given due to no cases being recorded in Hithadhoo for four consecutive days. The active cases in Hithadhoo remain at 54.

Four new cases were recorded from Addu City yesterday, from Maradhoo district. The total number of positive cases recorded in Addu City has reached 470, out of which 64 cases remain active to date. Contact tracing efforts have identified, 145 direct contacts related to the positive cases so far.

AEH also revealed that from the active cases, a total of 54 are in Hithadhoo and 10 cases in Maradhoo. To date, 404 patients made full recoveries in Addu City. 

The increased cases came from a cluster with over 17 confirmed cases identified in the Hithadhoo district on June 13, 2021.

Following the identification of this cluster, the Mayor of Addu City, Ali Nizar cautioned the people of Addu against having workers come in for domestic chores during this time, as contact tracing efforts are underway to determine the extent of the spread.
