Malé, Maldives – MP for Villimalé Constituency Ahmed Usham on Friday, said that Defence Minister Maria Didi was not eligible for the post of Defence Minister.

The inquiry report compiled by the Parliament’s Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee) was publicized on July 9, Thursday, after redacting confidential information regarding national security.

Speaking on the report at the parliament early Friday, MP Usham said one of the most important things he noticed after going through the report are the responses given by Defence Minister Maria Didi to the parliament inquiry.

MP Usham noted Defence Minister Maria’s response regarding information shared by MP for Hulhudhoo Constituency Ilyas Labeeb prior to the terror attack. She said that what MP Ilyas does not count as “information” and that what she considers as information is when a specific name or something to follow up on is given.

MP Usham stressed on the irresponsibility in the statements from Minister Maria. He said that her statement was not something that someone in that post should say.

In addition to this, Usham said that Minister Maria can be charged for violating the counter terrorism laws based on her responses to parliamentary inquiry itself. He added that as things have gone this far, Minister Maria should resign from her post or the state should dismiss her.

Furthermore, MP Usham said that at this point, the responsible authorities should stand up and take the appropriate action against those at fault. He added that the hard work of the parliament may go in vain if it is not done so.
