Izzuddin teachers reassigned after management review: Education Ministry

Malé, Maldives – The Education Ministry released a statement today regarding the allegations by Teachers’ Association of Maldives (TAM) and Public Interest Law Center (PILC) earlier expressing concern over the Education Ministry decisions on sexual harassment complaints against principal of Izzuddin School.

In their statement, the Education Ministry said that some positions were reassigned as corrective measure after the discomfort caused by four leading teachers resigning at once. A leadership and management review was conducted which showed that there were issues that may negatively affect students. As such, the committee investigating the issues recommended to bring some personnel changes for the new academic year.

The Ministry said that there is no correlation between the teacher reassignments and the sexual harassment complaints. The Education Ministry also said that they take such allegations very seriously and take quick actions.

The Education Ministry also condemned the statements by Teachers’ Association of Maldives (TAM) and Public Interest Law Center (PILC).
