Addu City, the second most populous city in the country met with a standstill tourism industry, after the country was forced to shut down its borders due to the on going Covid-19 pandemic. Closure of two main resorts of Addu, Canareef Resort and Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa followed after this with hundreds of Adduans losing their jobs. However, the City welcomed its first tourist since the pandemic, on 28th October, 2020 and has been slowly recovering from the loss since then.

Currently, the only remaining main tourist facilities in Addu city apart from the guest houses are South Palm Resort and city hotel Equator Village.
