Male’, Maldives – Sri Lankan Police has informed that they have caught a network illegally importing goods from Maldives in a fishing boat.

This Friday, Sri Lankan Media stated that Sri Lankan Coastguard caught a network importing goods illegally from Maldives in a Sri Lankan fishing boat near Beruwala Harbor, one of the main fishery harbours on the western coast of Sri Lanka. Six Sri Lankans were arrested while unloading the goods into the country.

The goods being illegally imported into Sri Lanka included of canned fish, cloths, electric equipments and perfume.

While the fishermen informed Sri Lankan Police that someone from the Maldives President’s Office had told them to import the goods to Sri Lanka, the Foreign Ministry of Maldives stated that they have no information of such an incident. The Ministry stated that Sri Lankan police usually contacts the Maldives Police Service for such issues.

However, a media official of Maldives Police stated that they have no information of the matter, reports local news.
