Malé, Maldives – Former Chairperson of MDP, Moosa Manik (Reekko Moosa) on Monday, said that the President of MDP and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed does not have control over MDP anymore.

The statement from Moosa Manik comes while MDP is in toil over controversies within the party. Moosa tweeted saying that the one running the government is a leader of MDP as stated by their fundamental policies and that releasing statements on Nasheed’s request, defaming the president is not something allowed by the policies.

Nasheed does not have control over MDP, no matter how much he wants to portray that he has control.

Nasheed previously said that he can no longer work with the current government and have a political relationship with President solih if they are reluctant to pass the bill on amendments to criminalize hate crimes.

Nasheed released a statement saying that the bill on amendments to criminalize hate crimes was presented to prevent attacks due to religious differences in Maldives. However, he added that the government withdrew their support for the bill due to influence from Adhaalath party and that the party continues to influence government decisions. He noted that the government should not allow for this to happen.
