Wasn’t what was written on my body, heart & liver not enough? – Nasheed strikes back

Malé, Maldives – Former President and current Speaker of the Parliament of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, today, tweeted at Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameedh saying that his witness statement is his body and if his body, heart and liver were not enough.

Speaker Nasheed has said this after Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz said that the police has not taken Nasheed’s statement regarding the May 6 terror attack targeting the Speaker of the Parliament.

In Nasheed’s tweet, he referred to a poem in the Dhivehi language asking whether giving away the heart and liver was not enough.

The IED explosion went off around 20:20 on 6 May leaving Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed critically injured while he was getting into his car near his house, G. Kenereege, Malé City. In addition to the Speaker, 3 more people were also been reported to be injured from the explosion including the Speaker’s bodyguards and bystanders.

Nasheed was taken to ADK Hospital with heavy bleeding, and both internal and external shrapnel injuries. Ball bearings were found in Nasheed’s chest, near his heart. The Speaker had to undergo a 16-hour long surgery to remove shrapnel from his liver, lungs and abdomen.
