Malé, Maldives – The new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H.E Wang Lixin, presented her Letter of Credence to H.E President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih this morning, at the President’s Office.
President Solih welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives and congratulated her on her ambassadorial appointment.
President Solih extended his gratitude to Ms Lixin’s predecessor, H.E. Zhang Lizhong, for his exemplary performance in enhancing mutual relations between the two nations. He expressed his confidence that Ms Lixin would continue to further solidify the existing bilateral ties during her tenure.
The President said that he appreciated Ms Lixin’s predecessor work, stating that he performed exemplary work in enhancing the bilateral relations between Maldives and China. He also stated that he has confidence that Ms Lixin would further solidify the existing bilateral relations during her tenure.
Noting that next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between the Maldives and China, President Solih shed light on the excellent relations between the two countries. He also recalled the phone call with the President of China, H.E Xi Jinping, back in July 2021. During this phone conversation, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to solidify the existing bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest.
President Solih expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for the role they play in the socio-economic development of the Maldives. He also thanked the Chinese government for the generous donation of 400,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine to the Maldives in addition to the previous donation of 200,000 doses. He added that these contributions greatly aided in the drive to inoculate the whole population against the Covid-19 virus in the Maldives.
During the call, Ms Lixin extended well wishes from the Chinese government to President Solih and the people of the Maldives. She stated that it is an honour to serve as the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives and that she would do her best to move the existing bilateral relations to new heights. She also commended President Solih on successfully curbing the spread of Covid-19 with the measures taken by the Maldives government.
Concluding the call, the President and Ambassador wished each other well and expressed their commitment to continue the bilateral relationship on a positive trajectory.
