Male’, Maldives – President of Opposition PNC party, Abdul Raheem (Adhurey) stated that the opposition coalition has no interest in discussing any topic with Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

The statement from Adhurey comes after Speaker Nasheed stated this Sunday that although he is willing to work with the opposition party, he cannot engage in talks with the Opposition, unless they stop the anti-India comments.

I say this clearly. We can only engage in political talks with any party if we find a common political philosophy. As such, ceasing disparaging comments against India is useful. Their policies must be shaped that way.

Adhurey tweeted in response to Speaker Nasheed’s statement and noted that the Opposition has no intention have discussions on any topic with Speaker Nasheed and that PPM does not even have reason to speak with Speaker Nasheed.

Speaker Nasheed has repeatedly expressed concern over anti-India comments by opposition politicians, who see India’s influence as a threat to Maldives’ independence.
