Malé, Maldives – MP Ahmed Haleem (Dhonbiley) of Bilehdhoo Constituency today said that the audio clip of alleged three judges on the bench of former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s criminal case is falsified.
MP Haleem said that the alleged audio of Criminal Court judges admitting being held hostage during Yameen’s court case is an attempt to manipulate former President Yameen’s Supreme Court appeal case. Haleem alleged that the former President’s lawyer Dr Mohamed Jameel is known to orchestrate such schemed, adding that the accused judges’ denial of the legitimacy of the audio clip is proof that such schemes will not work.
Dhonbiley said that the opposition has failed in their scheme after highly investing in it since the public will not fall for such acts.
While Opposition Coalition has called to free former President Yameen and accused President’s Chief of Staff Ali Zahir of masterminding the manipulation of the former President’s trial, the President’s Office has denied these allegations and requested the JSC and Police to investigate this matter.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of Maldives, on August 30, commenced an investigation into the leaked audio recording of a judge allegedly implicating outside pressure into passing a sentence.
