UN PGA to arrive in Maldives tomorrow for an official visit on President Solih’s invitation

The President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA), His Excellency Abdulla Shahid has scheduled an official visit to the Maldives from 6-9 October 2021.

PGA Shahid’s visit to the Maldives is by invitation from His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

President Solih and PGA Shahid will engage in official talks during this visit.

President Solih invited PGA Shahid to visit the Maldives in his official capacity as the President of the UNGA during the 76th Session of the UNGA, in New York last month.

Abdulla Shahid assumed office as the 76th UNGA President on 15 September 2021.

President Solih met with the UN PGA Abdulla Shahid, on the sidelines of the 76th General Assembly at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York City in September.

In their meeting, President Solih congratulated the PGA on his election and wished him success in achieving the Five Rays of Hope (list) that defines the PGA’s term. From among these, the PGA mentioned vaccinating the global population against Covid-19 by December of 2022 and ramping climate action are high up on the agenda.

President Solih also extended an invitation to PGA Shahid to visit the Maldives at an early date in his capacity as PGA during this meeting.
