Malé, Maldives – Police are investigating the assault case of a 19 year old girl.
The perpetrator has now been remanded to 10 days in custody while the investigation continues.
Police state that the kidnapping case of a 19 year old girl was reported at 01:30 on Thursday night. Following this, police arrested a 19 year old male suspect.
This comes at a time when Maldivian social media is in an uproar over the alleged kidnapping and assault of a teenage girl by her ex-boyfriend. The perpetrator allegedly assaulted the girl over a period leading up to the kidnapping.
Local news reports state that the kidnapped girl was transported on the Sinamalé bridge from Hulhumalé to Malé.
While the police have not confirmed that this is the same case, local news sources report that the teenage girl reported the case at approximately the same time as the police case.
