Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Food and Drug Authority today ordered to immediately stop the usage, sale and distribution of Pacific Oysters exported to Maldives by Prestige Foods International.
Pacific Oysters (Magallana gigas) produced in the Coffin Bay, South Australia have been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as contaminated with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacterial infection can cause gastroenteritis (gastro) problems in humans.
MFDA ordered an immediate halt to the usage of the aforementioned contaminated oysters pending a full investigation to assess the risk level of the contamination.
