JSC appoints two female judges for Family Court

Malé, Maldives – The Judicial Services Commission (JSC), today, decided to appoint two female to the Maldives Family Court.

JSC stated that of the applicants to the two vacant positions for judges of the Family Court, Zaeema Nasheed Abubakr, Nasheedheehiya, AA. Feridhoo and Maeesha Yusuf Sameer, M. Vilufushi won the most points following the interviews. Thereby, the Commission has chosen the two candidates as judges for the Family Court.

The two female judges are to be sworn in on Sunday, 28 November 2021.

Zaeema Nasheed Abubakr, Nasheedheehiya, AA. Feridhoo served as the registrar of the Juvenile Court for the past 9 years and has achieved a Master’s of Shariah from Villa College.

Maeesha Yusuf Sameer, M. Vilufushi worked as a prosecutor in the Prosecutor General’s Office for three years heading the Atolls section and Family and Child Unit. Maeesha received her Bachelor of law from University of London.

The two candidates were appointed from 34 applicants.

Family court judges receive a basic salary of MVR 30,000, living allowance of MVR 15,000 and risk allowance of MVR 1,375.
