Malé, Maldives – The Foreign Minister of Maldives and President of UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid has thanked US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for the most recent Pfizer Covid-19 donation by the US.
The vaccine shipment donated by the US Department of State via the COVAX facility arrived in the Maldives on Friday.
The 210,600 doubles the US vaccine contribution in the Maldives. USAID Maldives thanked the Maldivian frontline workers for travelling by and boat to administer shots in over 200 islands disconnected by the sea.
The United States is committed to delivering life-saving vaccines and mitigating the pandemic’s effects, particularly as the Omicron variant accelerates throughout Asia.
The United States has donated 439,920 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to Maldives and committed $7 million to Maldives’ COVID-19 response and recovery, in addition to an in-kind donation of 60 portable ventilators and 100,000 Rapid Diagnostic Tests. This assistance has reached islands and atolls across Maldives, providing life saving treatments, strengthening clinical care, and mobilizing critical supplies to bolster response and help the country recover.
