PG appeals Magistrate Court ruling to suspend High Court sentence

Malé, Maldives – The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) appealed Addu City Hithadhoo Magistrate Court ruling to suspend a High Court sentence.

The hearing for the appeal was scheduled at 14:00 today.

On February 21, the Addu City Hithadhoo Magistrate Court released a suspect into house arrest for medical care stating that “since the suspect has admitted to guilty charges, the magistrate court suspends the High Court’s ruling under 2020/HC-A/216 for 90 days starting from the day of the judgement.”

Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem had stated that the case would be appealed and a complaint will also be made to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
