Velaa Private Island, Maldives – Velaa Private Island Maldives, a luxury resort located up north of Maldives in Noonu Atoll has made a donation of MVR 750,000 to three NGOs, each receiving MVR 25,000.
The donation was made on 2nd March, 2022 three Malé based non profits which are Care Society, Cancer Society of Maldives and Maldivian Thalassemia Society as part of the resort’s yearly donation plan which commenced in 2018 in conjunction with the resort’s 5th anniversary.
“Five years ago, when we started working with these organisations, the world was a very different place and often in these difficult times it is the non-profit organisations that struggles the most and are the ones that needs the most support. You may be rest assured, that our contribution and support will remain for these great NGOs and their initiatives, and we are very proud and privileged to be able to share our support for these wonderful causes.” said Wayne Milgate, General Manager, Velaa Private Island Maldives.
Care Society, founded in 9th November 1998 is the largest non-profit organisation in the country and serves in various fields of humanitarian work including relief operations during the 2004 tsunami. It also carries out rehabilitation programs for enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities and empowers local communities in being inclusive for all.
Cancer Society of Maldives (CSM) is a national community based non-profit NGO which creates awareness about cancer and provides support to those going through cancer. The main purpose of the organisation is to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer in the country and to enhance the experience of those fighting cancer.
Maldivian Thalassemia Society (MTS) is another non-profit which creates awareness and works to improve and enhance the quality of life for those living with thalassemia.
Velaa Private Island is designed as a ‘beyond luxury’ resort with 47 private villas, houses and exclusive residences. While 18 of the 47 are built over water, the Romantic Pool Residence can only be reached by boat, allowing even more privacy and exclusivity.
