Police summon Parliamentarians Ghassan & Saeed regarding “India Out” mega protest

Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Police Service has summoned the MP Ghassan Maumoon of Guraidhoo Constituency and MP Mohamed Saeed of Maavashu Constituency regarding the opposition mega protest on 25 March 2022.

Police summoned MP Saeed for 21:30 while Ghassan is to follow at 22:30 today.

MP Ghassan Maumoon is the Deputy Leader of opposition PNC while MP Mohamed Saeed is the Deputy Head of opposition PPM.

A number of top opposition politicians including MP Ghassan and MP Saeed were taken into custody during the “Neyvaaholhiah” protest held in the capital city Malé.

Both parliamentarians were taken to court for remand hearings upon which they were released with conditions by the court.

Prior to the protest, police urged the public against participating in the rally stating that the political event does not fall into the guidelines of a peaceful rally.
