Human Rights Commission monitors Addu Child Sexual Abuse Case

Malé, Maldives – Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) stated on Wednesday that the commission is closely monitoring the Addu Child Sexual Abuse Case.

At a press conference held today, HRCM stated that the commission is monitoring the actions of relevant authorities with regard to protecting the rights of the child victim.

While a petition has been submitted to HRCM calling for leniency in the detention of suspect Aminath Dhiye (59), HRCM added that a team has visited the suspect and the minors under her care.

HRCM also stated that the commission is investigating an additional complaint by the detained Aminath Dhiye.

Aminath Dhiye was arrested in the southern region for the sexual abuse of a 6-year-old girl on 25 March 2022 and was remanded to custody till the end of the trial by the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court. The lower court’s ruling was upheld by the Maldives High Court earlier today.
