ACC orders authorities to reclaim MVR 1.5 million

Malé, Maldives – Anti Corruption Commission of the Maldives (ACC) on Wednesday ordered relevant authorities to reclaim MVR 1.5 million in rent and fines.

Since the reconstitution of ACC in March 2022, the commission has uncovered MVR 1.5 million to be paid to the government in three cases.

This includes misuse of a corporate credit card issued to the President’s Office in 2007 resulting in a loss of MVR 144,494.65. Finance Ministry has been notified to reclaim the amount from the responsible party.

A second case completed by ACC includes unpaid rent by 10 parties for 12 land lots adding up to MVR 1.4 million as rent and fines in R. Alifushi. ACC has requested the Alifushi Island Council to retrieve the amount as per the contract.

The third case completed by ACC involves unpaid dues regarding a contract between a private party and HDh. Baarah Island Council in 2015. MVR 11,759 is to be retrieved in this case.

The three cases amount up to MVR 1,570,814.44 to be paid to the government.
