JUST IN: Sri Lankan Prime Minister resigns amid mass protests

Sri Lanka – Sri Lankan media reports that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned hours earlier amid mass protests in the country.

Rajapaksa has resigned after evoking emergency and placing the country on curfew amid violent clashes between protestors and government supporters.

Sri Lankans have been holding protests following the worst economic crisis in the country’s history. The cabinet has also dissolved with the Prime Minister’s resignation.

Local news has publicized a copy of the alleged letter of resignation sent by Mahinda Rajapaksa to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
