Nasheed commends Maldives government’s role in Gotabaya’s resignation

Malé, Maldives – Former President and Leaked of the parliament Mohamed Nasheed on Thursday commended the Maldives government on the thoughtful actions in providing safe entry to former Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Nasheed confirmed that Gotabaya Rajapaksa has resigned from his post and expressed his belief that “the President would not have resigned if he were still in Sri Lanka, and fearful of losing his life.”

I commend the thoughtful actions of the Govt of Maldives. My best wishes to the people of Sri Lanka.

“President GR has resigned. I hope Sri Lanka can now move forward,” stated Nasheed.

Nasheed is currently facing criticism from the Maldivian and Sri Lankan public after CNN reported that he facilitated the arrival of Rajapaksa in the Maldives in the early hours of Wednesday.

Government has refrained from making any officials statement regarding the issue.
