Body of suspected missing youth heavily decomposed, postmortem to be done

Hulhumalé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has revealed that the body of the suspected missing youth, Mohamed Azhan was heavily decomposed when found yesterday in Hulhumalé.

Speaking to media last night at the scene where the body was found, Head of Serious and Organised Crime Department of Maldives Police Service, Superintendent of police Hassan Saeed told that they strongly believe that the body is of Mohamed Azhan but could not confirm at the moment due to the decomposition of the body.

He also added that it was difficult to say whether there were any injuries on the body and that a postmortem will be done to confirm the identity and establish the cause of death.

Police also revealed that no attempts to burry the body was identified near the scene and Azhan’s phone hasn’t been found near the location.

Police are carrying out the investigation as a homicide case and that it hasn’t been established if anyone was involved in the matter.

Search in the area in front of Hulhumalé water theme park developmental project area was carried out following CCTV footage analysis which showed him alone near to the location before his disappearance.

Azhan, 27, was reported to the police as a missing person on Monday, September 19, at approximately 19:00. He was last confirmed to be seen near the Redbull Park located in Hulhumale’ Phase I at approximately 06:00 of September 18.
