Gov’t to propose MVR 41.5 billion budget for 2023

Malé, Maldives – Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has revealed that the governments budget proposal for 2023 will be MVR 41.5 billion.

Speaking to local media this afternoon at the President’s Office, Minister Ameer told that the governments stand was to propose a budget based on the fiscal strategy and that for next year it dictated a budget of MVR 41.5 billion.

He also added that although the government aims for an MVR 41.5 billion cap on the budget that with the policy level discussions there might be a variance on the final amount at which the budget will be sent to parliament.

The Approved Budget for 2022 is MVR 37.0 billion of which total expenditure is MVR 34.1 billion. The government is expected to receive MVR 24.3 billion as revenue and grants in 2022. The budget deficit for 2022 is 9.8 billion which is 11.2% of the GDP.
