Minister Shahid departs to UK

Malé, Maldives – Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid departed to the United Kingdom on an official visit yesterday.

According to a tweet sent out by the Minister, he hopes to engage with the new leadership of the UK government “to further strengthen our longstanding relations.”

Among those the Minister is scheduled to meet with are the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict and Minister of State for the Middle East, South Asia and the United Nations Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister for Asia, Energy, Climate and Environment The Rt Hon Lord Goldsmith and members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords of the UK.

Minister Shahid will also be meeting with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development The Rt Hon James Cleverly to continue discussions on enhancing the longstanding relations between the two countries.

Apart from the official meeting with the UK government, Minister Shahid is also scheduled to address the youth at the Oxford Union Society on “the future of multilateralism”.

Minister Shahid is accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed, on this trip from 29 October to 4 November 2022.
