Speaker Nasheed departs to Egypt to attend COP27

Malé, Maldives – The Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed Nasheed has departed for Egypt today to attend the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27).

Nasheed is attending as a member of the Sri Lankan national delegation. Nasheed is a climate advisor to the country’s President, Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Speaker Nasheed was appointed to the position alongside Norwegian former Minister Erik Solheim.

Nasheed will also attend the Climate Prosperity Plans Flagship Event: Paving the Blood from Vulnerability to Prosperity in Egypt on the 8th of this month.

The event will showcase the progress made by countries in developing national climate resilience plans and is organized by the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) and the Vulnerable Group of 20 (V20).

During his visit to Egypt, Nasheed will also meet senior officials from the CVF, V20 and other countries.
