Addu City, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has revealed that a joint counter-terrorism operation with Maldives National Defence Force is being conducted in Malé City, Addu City and sea area of Addu City.
Police also stated that further details of the operation will be released as soon as possible.
The operation comes while the police and army are searching a house in Hithadhoo following a bomb threat. The bomb squad of the MNDF first arrived at the house following a large number of SO police and soldiers being deployed shortly to the house.
Police have now closed the area where the house is located.
The Times of Addu also learnt that police have previously searched the same house previously in connection with an extremist case.
A large number of people were arrested last year in connection with extremism. Bomb making materials were also recovered from some of the arrested persons at the time.
