President extends term of Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih extended on Thursday the term of the Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice till November 17, 2023.

The office was established under Section 4(a) of the Transitional Justice Act (Act No. 28/2020). As per Section 5(c) of the act, the two-year term of the office is set to expire on December 17, 2022.

The President’s decision to extend the term of the office follows a request to allow addition time to complete investigations into the cases heard by the office.

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice is made up of:

1. Uz Abdul Salam Arif (Chief Ombudsperson)
2. Uza Jihadha Anees (Ombudsperson)
3. Uz Mustafa Hameed (Ombudsperson)
