Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s closest associates have visited the Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
MDP Parliamentary Group Leader and Hithadhoo North MP Mohammed Aslam, President Solih’s younger brother and Hulhumalé MP Ali Niyaz were present at the meeting held at Sun Island Resort.
No information was disclosed on the discussions at the meeting.
MDP National Council last week passed a resolution to give the President the power to form a coalition with other political parties in this year’s presidential election.
MDP presidential ticket was officially handed over to the President last Friday.
The parties in the ruling coalition have yet to decide how they will proceed in the upcoming presidential election.
JP will decide on contesting the presidential election at its national convention starting on 24th of this month. The Adalat Party and the MRM have not yet spoken much about the presidential election.
The presidential election will be held on September 9 of this year.
