Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has said it will not accept the removal of Ismail Zabeeh from the post of Deputy Minister of Higher Education in violation of the coalition agreement signed by the coalition parties.
In a statement, the MRM said Zabeeh had not committed any act that warranted his dismissal.
The MRM statement said it was deeply concerned that the government had taken such a decision without consulting the party and without giving any reason.
The statement said that removing a person like Zabeeh and giving political positions to a large number of unqualified people who do not meet the responsibilities of the position is very damaging to the country.
He has also made valuable contributions to higher education during the past four years in office, the statement said.
The government confirmed Zabeeh’s dismissal, but did not disclose the reasons for it.
MRM, led by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has not decided what to do in the upcoming presidential election.
