The Minister of Environment and Energy, Dr. Hussain Rasheed has starting consulting the public in relation to matters involving the environment.
The ministry announced that who ever wishes to discuss any environment related issues with the Minister would be able to do so on every Sunday from 09:00 am to 10:00 without any prior appointments. So far, two individuals have met with the minister as per this policy.
While the ministry has opened up such an opportunity for the public, the Minister took the past year visiting islands of the country to assess the environmental situation of the country. Moreover, the Minister also attended several meetings and forums related to environment.
One of the most highlighted environmental issues by the public is the uprooting of palm trees from islands with minimal regard to the environmental impact it has.
