Tourism facilities urged to prioritize laid off staff when resuming business

Male’, Maldives – The Ministry of Tourism of Maldives has urged all tourism facilities of the country to prioritize staff which have been laid off when resuming business, as Maldives moves to open up borders and re-open resorts on 15th and 17th of July respectively.

This was stated in a circular sent to all the tourism related business by the Ministry, which urged the facilities to rehire staff who were terminated or suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As borders are set to be open soon, the government of Maldives has released very specific guidelines to be followed by the tourism facilities, which are “Guideline for re-starting tourism in Maldives” and “Maldives travel information”. These guidelines have also been circulated to all the tourism facilities.

While many from the tourism industry have been laid off or sent on no-pay leave, the government of Maldives continues to pay such individuals an allowance of MVR 5000.
