Male’, Maldives – Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim has ordered Ali Waheed to resign from the position of the party’s presidency.
While this has been confirmed by senior member of the party, it comes not even a day after Ali Waheed has been removed from his position as the Minister of Tourism of Maldives, over multiple allegations of sexual harassment of the ministry he overlooked, which was then followed by the council of JP deciding to move to remove Ali Waheed from his position in the party as well.
Although his removal was not immediate as news of the allegations broke out on Wednesday night, Spokesperson of the President’s Office had immediately publicized that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had ordered Ali Waheed to tender his resignation – some thing which he did not do even until his dismissal.
So far, it is not yet known whether Ali Waheed has stepped down from his position in the party.
