President of CSC in Maldives resigns

Male’, Maldives – The President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) of Maldives, Dr. Ali Shameem has resigned from his Position.

The news was revealed by the Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed during the ongoing Parliamentary sitting.

Nasheed also highlighted that Shameem’s resignation came as the matter of removing Shameem and four other members of the Commission was scheduled for the Parliamentary sitting of today. With this, Shameem’s no confidence vote will not take place today.

The Independent Commissions Committee of the Parliament passed the decision to remove the five members of CSC in a committee meeting held during June, which saw the VP of CSC, Shahid Mohamed and Members Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq being moved to be ousted from the Commission.

The decision was taken following issues with regards to unfair removal of Civil Service employees from their positions as well as the procedure followed in hiring several employees to the Commission.

The matter was proposed by MP of Laamu Gan constituency, Mohamed Wisam.
