Male’, Maldives – Education Ministry of Maldives has announced that the schools of Male’ region will remain closed for another two weeks after the Eid break.

The Ministry revealed that the decision to extend the duration of schools remaining closed has been taken after consulting with Health Protection Agency (HPA), as numbers of Covid-19 cases continue to climb in the Male’ region.

“Although physical classes have been put on a halt, online classes will continue. The decision will be reviewed in two weeks depending on how the the infection rates are.” The statement read.

The Ministry also highlighted that although the school environment is essential and irreplaceable in the emotional and social wellbeing of a child, ultimately the highest priority of the Ministry would be the health and safety of the students, which is why it is the opinion of the Ministry that it would be safest for students to remain home with their families during this time.

While schools are to remain closed, the government of Maldives has announced that all government offices shall also remain closed for the remaining part of this week.
