Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates— The former King of Spain, Juan Carlos who had left the country to an Unknown destination lands in UAE.

Amid a corruption investigation, it is seen that the former king had reportedly traveled to the United Arab Emirates after leaving his home country.

A photograph published by Spanish media group NIUS shows that the 82-year-old arriving in Abu Dhabi on the same day he announced that he is leaving Spain.

On Monday, the ex-monarch announced his shocking movement on a letter to his son, Felipe, to whom he handed power six years ago. Juan Carlos denies of any wrongdoing and mentioned that he would be available for interview if the prosecutors are in need of it.

His departure from the country sparked a huge debate in Spain about the monarchy and intense speculation about where the former king has gone.

Some of the Local reports said that Juan Carlos is in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean or to Spain’s neighbour, Portugal. However, the present reports say that Juan Carlos is occupying an entire floor at Abu Dhabi’s five-star Emirates Palace hotel. The former king was reportedly close with Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

Infact, the investigation opened on June by the supreme court of Spain showed the alleged involvement of Juan Carlos in a high-speed rail contract in Saudi Arabia.

The former king was abdicated after near 40 years of King in 2014 due to a corruption investigation involving his daughter’s husband and a controversial elephant hunting trip the monarch took during Spain’s financial crisis.

Juan Carlos then left the country after weeks of when he was linked to an inquiry about alleged corruption.

However the former king’s location still remains unconfirmed. Spain’s royal family and government have so far declined to comment on his whereabouts.
