Two names for Supreme Court forwarded to the Parliament

Male’, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded the names of Criminal Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim to the Parliament as the new appointments to the Supreme Court.

The President forwarded the names to the parliament following the approval of the recommendations of the names by  Judicial Service Commission.

Judge Ali Rasheed who serves as the senior judge of the Criminal Court, was appointed to the post on November 5, 2020, after the suspension of the-then senior judge Ahmed Hailam by the JSC. He had also served as a judge at the Civil Court.

Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim is a Ph.D. graduate of philosophy in Islamic Commercial Law from the University of Malaysia. He completed his Masters in Commercial Law from the UK and has been practicing as a lawyer for 16 years.

Currently, there are two vacant seats on the Supreme Court bench, which comprises of 7 seats in total.
