Male’, Maldives – Dr. Abdullah Mausoom, who was appointed as the new Tourism Minister of the Maldives has re-taken his oath on Monday morning.

With this, the President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent his name to be approved by the Parliament, for a second time. The matter has now been forwarded to the government oversight committee of the Parliament.

Mausoom was required to re-take his oath, after his name was sent to the Parliament initially, where the government oversight committee decided to advise the President to have Mausoom re-take his oath. This was decided by the committee based on the fact that Mausoom held the position of Managin Director of a private company at the time of his oath. Mausoom resigned from the position shortly after his oath.

As the matter was controversial, which many members of the committee described as a violation of the constitution of the country, it was decided to have Mausoom retake his oath.

Mausoom was initially appointed to the position on 6th August, 2020.
