Kudahuvadhoo, Maldives – Dh. Kudahuvadhoo has been placed under morning status for an indefinite period of time, on Tuesday, barring anyone from making unauthorized movements in or out of the country.

Local media outlet, “Sun” reported that the council president of Kudahuvadhoo, Ahmed Sham stated that the island was placed on monitoring status following several cases of Covid-19 being recorded in the neighboring island resort, Niyama Private Limited.

It has been revealed that today, four cases of Covid-19 have been recorded from the resort, in addition to the previous case which was recorded, triggering contact tracing efforts by authorities.

In addition to this, four individuals from a family who were in home quarantine following their travel from Male’ to the island also tested positive for the coronavirus.

At present time, there is no testing facility in the island, due to which all samples are being sent to Male’. However, council president Sham told “sun” that two machines have been provided to the island by a generous donor, which are yet to be installed.

As the number of Covid-19 cases in the country rises with numbers in the hundreds on the daily, the virus is slowly dispersing into the islands, risking over burdening of a health care system which has already been stretched thin.
