COVID-19: Ungoofaaru placed under monitoring

R. Ungoofaaru, Maldives – R. Ungoofaaru has been placed under monitoring status by Health Protection Agency (HPA) after positive case was recorded from the island.

HPA has banned travel in and out of the island after one individual tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. Authorities inform that contact tracing is underway on the island.

The positive cases were individual working on a boat travelling between Malé and Ungoofaaru, and their close contacts.

HPA advises all individuals who travelled to R. Ungoofaaru from 2 March 2021 to inform the nearest Hospital or Health Center.

Dh. Kudahuvadhoo is also under monitoring status with confirmed local transmission and 19 positive cases.

145 positive cases were recorded in the Maldives yesterday, with 21 cases recorded from inhabited islands other than Malé, with a total of 2,447 active cases in the country. With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 22,292 out of which 19,773 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 yesterday.

Maldives currently has 120 patients hospitalized, and 65 recorded deaths. The deceased are 58 Maldivian nationals, 6 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
