Male’, Maldives – Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) has revealed that the number of resort employees who test positive for Covid-19 are higher than the tourists.
Speaking at the press conference held at Dharubaaruge, representative of the technical advisory group Dr.Ahmed Shaheedh has said that people going to resorts from Male’ area also need to abide by the guidelines and complete their quarantine period.
Dr.Ahmed Shaheedh highlighted that more staff are being tested positive for Covid-19 than the tourists in these resorts.
He further added that there is a high chance that the virus may spread to the islands if the people coming from resorts do not complete their quarantine periods property.
Dr.Ahmed Shaheedh continued to highlight the importance of abiding by the guidelines which have been published, in order to fight against Covid-19. He also said that even though all tourists are being tested for Covid-19, the measures put in place must be strengthened and followed strictly.
“It is also very important to follow the guidelines of HPA when people are moving from resorts to islands”, Dr.Ahmed added.
54 people have been tested positive for Covid-19 in 25 resorts out of which 39 are locals. This also includes 15 tourists.
Covid-19 was first found in a tourist in Maldives. But even after 6 months since covid was found in a person in Male’ with no travel history, the situation in Maldives is still not under control.
