Premier League champions beat Chelsea in the second week of the new season, 2-0. Both teams played at an equal tempo while Liverpool had more possession and shots in the first half.

However, a red card for Chelsea defender Christensson at the end of the first half puts them at the disadvantage. Referee had VAR’s help to make the decision, but it was clear the defender brought down Sadio Mane as the last man when he was a few yards away from an open goal.

Sadio Mane took the lead for Liverpool very early in the second half, heading a goal from Roberto Firmino’s cross. Chelsea stopper had another woeful display last night as he miss kicked a pass to Jorginho which was intercepted by Mane scoring his second, easily.

Frank Lampard’s side got a penalty nearing the end which was saved by Allisson as Jorginho shot a rather unconvincing strike from the spot.

Tottenham Hotspurs took on Southampton yesterday evening, winning 5-2 after coming back from a goal. Huen-ming-Son scored the first 4 after Danny Ings took the lead for the Saints. However, it was Harry Kane who shared the headlines as he assisted all 4 goals for Son, before scoring one for himself near the end.

Saints took a consolation goal back after referee awarding them a penalty due to a handball incident in the box. Danny Ings scored from the box making it his second of the evening.

More from the Premier League yesteday, Brighton beat Newcastle 3 goals to nil, 2 by Maupay and and Connolly at the end, 83rd minute. Leicester City beat Burnley 4-2. Barnes, Pieters, Justin and Praet for Leicester and Chris Wood and Dunne the scorers for Burnley.
