Male’, Maldives- Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and MP of Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyaam, has said that India is afraid of former president Abdulla Yaameen.

Speaking at a function held for general members to sign for the party, Shiyaam said that the one Maldivian that India fears is Yaameen. He further added that this is because former president Yaameen is the only one who will take a stand against the work done by India to enslave Maldives.

He also said that the current agreements made by the government are unsafe and that these agreements are not wanted by the Maldivian citizens. In addition to this he said that these agreements are being made and implemented against the constitution of Maldives and that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has violated the Constitution of Maldives.

“The president is signing agreements that endanger our freedom. These agreements need to be approved by the Parliament of Maldives but it is evident that the 65 MPs of Majilis are supporting these agreements and selling our country without any consideration towards what is stated in the constitution.”said, Shiyaam.

Shiyaam also added that he has no problem with Indian citizens and that the problem is with the government for implementing their foreign policy in a way that benifits them. Furthermore, he said that his concern is that with the implementation of these policies, rights if Maldivian citizens and their freedom are being played with.

He also said that even during the presidency of Abdullah Yaameen, India kept on proposing these types of agreements by offering some money and that today we are witnessing the difference of leaders.
