Yaameen’s name will be in 2023 presidential election: Shareef

Male’, Maldives – MP of Maduvvari Constituency, Adam Shareef said that Former President Yaamen Abdul Gayyoom’s name will in the candidates list for the presidential election 2023. Former President Yaameen is currently in jail for a period of 5 years after being found guilty of money laundering charges.

Adam Shareef took to his Twitter account saying that all current agreements made by this government that endanger the sovereignty of Maldives will be cancelled as soon as Former President Yaameen is re-elected for President. He further said that Yaameen’s name will be on the voting ballots of the 2023 election.

Adam Shareef further added that Former President Yaamen will work to protect the freedom of Maldives and that he will return to serve the citizens of Maldives to the best of his abilities.

Even though Shareef said that Yaameen’s name will be on the voting ballots of 2023, it has not yet been 1 year since Former President Yaameen Abdul Gayyoom was convicted for money laundering. With 4 more years for his sentence, there are other charges of money laundering as well as an allegation of bribery on former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom of which the hearings are ongoing at court.
