Four men arrested in a major liquor bust

Malé, Maldives — Maldives Police Service has arrested four men from Malé city over possession of a large amount of liquor.

A statement released by the Police Service on Wednesday revealed that a joint operation was conducted by their Drug Enforcement Department and Drug Intelligence on September 21 after they had recieved information from intelligence reports.

During the operation, police had stopped a pickup on Handhuvaree Hingun of the capital Malé city and had confiscated 10 packets and 72 bottles of liquor, along with 192 cans of beer.

Police disclosed that the expatriates who drove the pickup attempted to flee while attacking the officers who tried to stop them.

A 31-year-old Maldivian man, two Bangladeshi nationals aged 26, and a 28-year-old man were arrested for possession of liquor during the operation.

Maldives Police Service revealed that further investigations are being carried out regarding the operation.
