Malé, Maldives — Confirmed cases in Maldives surpasses 10,000 after HPA announces additional 75 confirmed cases over the past 24 hours.
HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of September 24, and 6pm of September 25, additional 75 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:
- 53 Maldivians
- 22 Foreigners
Among the confirmed 75 cases, 66 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 09 were from the atolls of Maldives.
With these 75 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 10,014 confirmed Covid-19 cases. However, currently among these cases, there are only 1,300 active cases present in the Maldives.
Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases. While the majority of the confirmed cases were initially of foreign nationals, the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, resulted in having a large proportion of Maldivian nationals confirming positive for the virus.
However, the number of cases is now decreasing, as the peak appears to have tipped for the better.

While 75 people tested positive for the virus today, 76 people completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 76 recoveries, the recovery cases in Maldives has now reached 8,673. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 86% over the past few days.
Up to date, 34 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 28 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
Currently there are 796 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 82 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
